I’m an IT professional by day that has developed a real love for wood working. I’ve found a half hour at the work table at the end of the day is the best way I’ve ever found to unwind from my day, it’s my own form of meditation.
Why do a blog? I digest a lot of information that is freely available out there, and I regularly share photos of my work on my Instagram. I’ve had a few people reach out here and there to ask some questions about things and I’ve started to feel like I often had an answer or a direction to offer, so I thought I’d start sharing more widely. Hopefully I’m giving back a little for all the free learning I’ve been so grateful to digest via YouTube and other blogs.
More than that, as I’ve learned many times in my professional career, writing things down really helps drive those lessons home for myself.
So there we are. I’m not planning on doing full tutorials, there are many more gifted woodworkers out there that offer some amazing training tools, mostly for free. I’ll try to provide a point of view from the perspective of the hobby woodworker, maybe outline some areas that I struggled with or learned doing it myself (because sometimes the professionals can glaze over some lower level learning), and probably doing a few reviews to help people make decisions that I had to go through.
If I had to name a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal), it would be to provide a little incentive to other early learners about what you can do with limited time. It took me a long time to realize that I could attempt some really nice projects and, even with the very limited time I have, learn a lot of these woodworking skills to the level that I can accomplish some really fun builds.
